RE: Does the Bow make the Shooter?
You have to train yourself for a low of high letoff, or no letoff at all, In the olympics they will shoot 100's of arrows, in a day, they shoot recurves with no letoff, in rain, sun, cool, warm weather. To become a better shooter, no matter what the let off, be it 80% or 65% or none, you have to tune your body accordingly. I just recently started hitting the weights in the last 2 months, after not really touching them for 2years, I feel this will make me a better shooter and it feels really good to. Although I aslo feel the good feelings about my new equipment will give me a better mental attitude towards shooting. But a compound bow is a machine, a machine is only as good as the person controlling it. No matter how good of a bow you have, with low, or high let off, if you are torquing, palming, plucking, looking, or doing anything that doesn't accomidate the bow then your shooting will suffer. If you have a poor attitude towards your equipment, your shooting will suffer. Take it from a person that pretty much hates his old bow, ever since I have had problems with the equipment, I feel I have not shot anywhere near my full potential. This is what I have to say about the letoff senario, and if a great bow will really make you a great shooter. It's all about the attitude. Good shooting.

55#recurve good post, i also lift weights and feel that it makes a huge differance when you shoot for long periods of time. it also makes the bow feel more comfortable to shoot. but this is just my opinion. some people get a little upset with other's opinion's on this board as you may have noticed.

No one is upset.I am entitled to my opinion the same as everyone else.I am stating facts and opinions of myself and others.
By all means if whatever bow/let-off combo works for you don't change it to suit someone else.
I will also agree with 55# about needing to learn to shoot with whatever L/O you decide on.As I stated I know plenty of people who can shoot high L/O effectivly, but I know more who like less.

In my opinion, you can master any bow as long as you practice alot. I have never had the opportunity to shoot any modern bows though. I shoot an old Hoyt. I am, however, looking to buy a new bow this year. Maybe I will improve. Hope so.

I will agree with cougermag.I don't think its the bow,but what you have the most confidence in.Almost everyone I know of shoots better when they buy a new bow.You just feel better about yourself,in turn, you will have more confidence. This is only my opinion, your bow is only as good as you are no matter how much you paid for it,or what brand it is.

a great shooter such as randy ulmer could shoot any boy good. i wouldn't bet against the man even he was shooting an old whitetail hunter! the main thing to help any shooter is to make sure that the bow is tuned. after that i really don't think it's the equipment but the skills of the shooter.
