I have been stationed at Cannon AFB for 6 years now, and for all 6 years the only tags I have been able to draw are deer. If I were in Albuquerque I would apply primarily for any unit in the Gila or Cibola Nat Forrest, or something north of Santa Fe. I usually apply for units 34, 36, and 37 because I spend a lot of time there, and know the land fairly well. You really have better odds in the places I listed for you though, for elk and deer. Good luck!! Tags are tough to come buy unless you can fork out some serious $$ for landowner tags. NM public lands offer some great big game hunting if you are willing to get out of your truck and off the beaten path to find it. Be cautious who you take info from, and how you hunt however. Poaching is a real serious problem here, and I have witnessed some potentially deadly situations where people are shooting at perceived animals from their truck when there was nothing there to be shot at.
