Bry, as with any profession, there are tools/equipment you have to buy to be able to perform your job.

Gutshot, whether I am in the office or in the woods, I am rewarded when I put forth the effort needed to do the job to the best of my ability. I personally enjoy both my profession and hunting.

The only "Professional Hunters" in this world live and work in Africa..........just because you are successful does not make you a professional, likewise even if you get paid to hunt,it still does not make you a professional hunter...........when these threads are brought up it seems the only purpose is to start controversy and to rag on outdoor personalities.........I really don't see the point?

No it wasn't brought up to start controversy or "rag" on outdoor personalities.

I disagree with "The only "Professional Hunters" in this world live and work in Africa".

I am a professional. I have been trained for 33 years to be professional in everything I do. I hunt, fish, and perform my military duties all to the best of my abilities as afforded to my through my experience and training.

Lastly, if you "don't see the point", why waste your time on posting in the thread?

Have a great day.

I disagree. If I need tools to perform my job I put in a purchase requisition and the company buys them. If I were an independent contractorI would write them off at tax time. I can't do that with my hunting gear.

Ok, good enough. A professional is someone who gets paid to do something. Normally, to become a professional you must have the training, experience and the skill necessary to be able to do what you are being rewarded (paid) for.

Now I submit that, if you have experience in hunting and have taken game that you have placed on your table, you are a professional.
I agree with AF, and disagree with most of you. How many so called professionals doing various jobs do you know that suck I mean really? I know of a few doctors and lawyers that suck at their paid "profession". One doctor in particular almost cost me my right hand. Another one saved it. In this instance the first "professional" doctor was amateurish in my opinion and is not good enough to be called a pro. Another example that I am sure some of you have encountered: how about a pro shop that is terrible at what they do? Because he is paid to sell and service a bow makes him professional?

There are many hunters on here that I would label as professional because of their attitude toward hunting, knowledge, skill, and seriousness they take toward hunting the game animal(s) they are after. IMO being "professional" is acting accordingly with ethics, knowledge, and skill whether paid or not.
