Excuse me if I sound ignorant, but what is the point of hunting Wolves? Is it to eliminate them so they don't hurt livestock or something? Do you eat wolf meat? Again, not trying to be passive aggressive, I really do not know.

Not really sure where I stand on the whole issue, but I do know that hunting up north is harder thatn it used to be because of the wolves. Did the DNR put them there? I am thinking yes, they put Timberwolves that were not native to Wisconsin instead of the gray wolf maybe?? Like I said, I really do not know the whole story here, but keep hearing stories about the Timber wolves killing the area dogs and not being scared of people, so if the wolves start to see people as a threat again, maybe it will be survival of the fittest for them also and we can get things to a more "normal" envirnment. On another thought, having a season would most likely legalize what many hunters are doing out there now. I actually have not seen a wolf, but I've heard plenty of them and is a concern when I take my young girls up to "God's Country". Wish I did not have to carry the 357 "just in case".

DandBuck, I don't have children but I can understand what you're saying.

But tell me this, isn't God's country not as much wolves country as it is yours ?
And I am sure even without a .357 your girls will be safe in your company !!!

I support wolf hunting because it is the most humane way to control the numbers. You should see what some of the others suggest... Go do a search in the "big game" forum...

I don't think this should even be open to out-of-staters. That poll doesn't mean squat now that we have skewed the results.
Well it is in a public forum.

What ever happened to being more multicultural?? hmm?
being multicultural has to deal with ethnic and cultural diversity. That has nothing to do with voting for different states on game regulations.

I don't have enough information about what is going on in WI to make an educated decision on it. Yes, the wolf is off the endangered species list, but does that mean that the population can support or is in need of hunting for control? The elk population here in PA was not at an endangered level, but only opened back up to hunting within the last decade or so. I'm not saying that hunting timber wolves should not be allowed in WI, but rather let's hear some reasons why it should be. If there is justification for hunting them, I am all for it.

On another note, you Euro folks sound like you think us Americans are uneducated rednecks who just want to kill for the sake of killing. I don't want to start an across the pond battle here, but it seems that you are jumping to conclusions. JamesVee has been on this forum for a long time and is well respectedand if he feels the hunt is needed I am sure it is warranted and would like to hear his reasons why. Before jumping on the "don't hunt the timber wolf because we don't have any" bandwagon, why not ask for the facts to help guide your decisions?

Agreed. I haven't voted yet and I also would be interested in hearing more about why/why not.
