RE: How many arrows?
I am just getting into assembling my own. Will probably start with a couple dozen for me, the same for each of my daughters.
I used to buy them finished by the doz. Torn fletchings, dented arrows and shot off nocks take toll on the #'s.
Shoot often - Hunt always

If I was just getting started I would buy at least a dozen. That should make you through the first year. After that I usually by six new ones every year to hunt with. This works good for me.

RE: How many arrows?
Im in the process of trying carbon arrows. I paper shot them at the range and I think I have the ones that will work best for me, so I purchased a doz shafts. After I buid these and try them out, if they are what suits me and preform well I'll buy anothe dozen.
If you alreday have what works best for you I buy a dozen shafts at a time and keep two dozen arrows on hand. Six for the range and 18 in my travel case for hunting.
Work hard and be true to yourself.
