Translation.....

What works for one DOES NOT work for all.

Quite the vague, blanket statement.

In a modified version it will.

Lets put MI regs in Iowa, in 5 years it would suck.

What would happen if the had1 million licensed hunters there??
There is not. With the same hunters Iowa has today.

Killing 65% bucks 35% antlerss deer(20% are bb) see what would happen.
Reverse MI just numbers and watch what would happen

Atlas I get your hunter number point, and DNR has to account for that.
What is NY deer herd size?
How many deer hunters?

Can someone tell me why a herd made up of 500,000 deer is "healthier" at 250,000 bucks and 250,000 does then it is at 400,000 does and 100,000 bucks??

I guess my question would be.........if it is that simple then why don't all the other states just follow along?
Great question and I can only answer for MI

Money
Tradition

I don't know what you do for a living but I know that you know all states don't do the same thing because they want to be different or they have their own agenda.
Greg...I mean this with all sincerity.....My state's "agenda" is controlling the population. They're doing what they HAVE to do.....to control the population. I'll be attending our NCWRC meeting on the 17th...and those meetings lead to things like I mentioned above (more liberal doe harvests.....reduction in buck harvests).....but we can never lose sight of the fact that we HAVE to make it attractive for hunters to kill deer, here. You start implementing a quasi-QDM type mgmt program across this entire state.....and the herd numbers will overrun us.

I think my state's doing what it can....given all the variables.

I'm with Atlas on this one, You post only some of PA's #'s In parts of the state you can't find a deer yet in Pittsburgh they are every where.
Thank God for private property because without it, the "killem all gang" would !

I do not feel one management goal works in all areas. Our state biologist's won't even publicly set goals because they are so ridiculously low.

Habitat improvement should be as much of your hunting program as deer #'s management is.

In reality....it isn't. It's more "balanced"....which is good for hunters.....but it isn't "healthier" (unless you attribute the two).

Not even semantics. If it's modified it isn't the same.

Well it's not that simple

If the habitat can support 500,000 deer than one is not more healthier than the other.
BTW a 1:1 ratio is not healthy either, Kroll wrote a great article on that myth

A 1:1 herd from what i read would be way stressed out during breeding season, not healthy[8D]

What is the make up of 100,000 bucks?
