IT's about accuracy. The farther you get a sight pin from your riser, the more accurate you can be. Think about a open sight rifle vs an open sight handgun. Think about the most accurate sight you can have, that would be one that puts your pin right on your target, like a laser. This is why MOST target sights are pushed out away from the riser. The farther it is from the eye, the more accurate you can place and hold it.
Like MeanV2 says too, you can gap your pins farther which makes for a more accurate hold in mid rangers.
It's all about accuracy and it's a beautiful thing, quite the opposite of ugly pal.
