RE: how cold is to cold
So far I haven't not when hunting soley because it was to cold. Now ifI already have a deer I may decide not to go out. but its not as muchthe cold then. I'vekilled deer in the teens and hunted in less. but I dress for it..

I have not found too cold yet[8D]. The colder it is the more concentrated the deer are around food, the more they move during the day, and the less hunting pressure is there! Give me -10, I love it. You just have to do a little research and dress sensibly. I have found I can take the coldest temps around my locale (-20 wind chill last week) with four sensibly chosen layers. For instance, long john uppers, heavy wool shirt, insulated jacket, heavy snow camo parka on the outside to cut the wind. Everything has zippers so when I walk (and get too warm) I can avoid perspiring which would destine me freezing as soon as I stop moving. A heavy ski mask covers my head. If you have problems with you feet getting cold rubber band some hand warmers to them inside the boots. I do not need to as I wear the 'micky mouse' boots rated to -60 and WOOL socks. Not sexy but warm!

Deer don't move much once it starts getting down into the single digits. If they do - usually it's mid-day. I won't hunt if it's that cold because I haven't seen much movement in those types of temps. If it's late season and you have a standing food source and snow - well that's a different story.

RE: how cold is to cold
When I was in Nort Dahkota, Iwent outhunting with my bow on a fairly coldday. It was -20 not including wind chill. I shot at a jackrabbit. Even killed it. However my bow broke. Apparently, it thought it was too cold.
As far as deer movement. It would depend on what they're used too. Temps around zero are nothing to far north deer.
I'm not sure how the cold affectsdeer movement here in Central IL. I did kill a deer last yearin a balmy 8 degrees at 10am. If nothing else, I kind of like hunting in the single digits because most other hunters wimp out and since I'm hunting public land... well you do the math.
Wind stops me from going out more than cold.

RE: how cold is to cold
Are we talking hunting in general or are we referring to bowhunting? It doesn't get "super" cold in Maryland, but there is a particular temperature when its quite cold to bowhunt. Its not that the air is cold, its just that I have found in the past that it is harder to draw a bow smoothly after sitting in lets say.. 10 degrees all morning. That doesn't mean I wouldn't bowhunt.... I'd just have to think twice or make sure I stay nice and stretched in the stand.

Your scale doesn't go low enough. Without looking or knowing... you must be from the mid Atlantic or lower. -10 is starting to get a chill on here.
