In case there is any confusion and I don't believe there was.I was defending Don Higgins,it just ticked me off when he visited that certain folks tore in to him!
I was thinking about people who were well known I wasn't making any other distinction.John Eberhardt,Joe Brooks,Don Higgins are all examples of regular guys who loved it enough to write about it.
It would be like the difference in having real talent versus having a huge marketing push behind you to have a made for TV hunter appear to have talent.I say that with no disrespect for the hunters on TV that are the real deal, many are!

I would classify Don as a Trophy/Mature buck hunter. Like you I happen to really like Don Higgins, he would have been a great asset to this board.
I just think he is differnet than what most think a "pro" hunter is. I do agree he was not treated well on this board.

I know you were for Don, I thought I was agreeing with you.

No, there are no big name pros on here. They all have little names.

I imagine some of the TV hunters come here for nothing more than a pulse check from the folks that purchase the stuff they push. I doubt many if any would post and open themselves up to questions or comments.

Sex sells. Scent lock uses this, they are no different from any other big advertiser. The commercial with her getting dressed, putting the socks on, is using her good looks to sell their clothing. I feel sure she and her husband know this already, no shock there. I'm just speaking my mind though.

I haven't met any "pros". I cannot pass judgement on anyone I have never met personally. I'm sure it is like any other profession... Some are genuine good people, some aren't. Every industry / business has that. I would certainly love to meet many of them though.
I think many of them do great things for the sport... and others send the wrong image of it. Just like your local hunters... some are good people and good hunters, others aren't. Nothing you can do about either one.

I wouldn't necessarily call them 'big name pro's" They are people like us who have a passion for the outdoors and have become "big names" through television and media. They spend all their time hunting and making money from the industry. I have no problem with that as long as its done ethically. Some of them I would like to share a campfire with and then others...no thanks!

Pros or not, there's a market out there for what they do and everyone on this board supports them knowingly or not. Buy their cos. products, watch their shows(even if its only to see great animals or cool locations) etc, etc. I personally never have met any of them but by watching them on tv I know which ones I might want to hang with or not. That doesnt mean I buy more of their "stuff", they are only entertainment for me. This industry is here to stay, someone has to be the spokespersons wether you like them or not. Barry Bonds and many others are cheaters but they promote the hell out of their sport.
