Bobcat ruins my evening
Yesterday I was sitting in my stand the day was perfect, very little wind and just watching the sun start to set. About15 minutes before sunset I see a doe coming out of the woods just twenty yards from me then another, before I know it there are six. Then they all start to walk right back in, when one of them starts to blow and up go the white flags and off they go. I was sitting perfectly still, I thought for a moment that they got a scent of me until I heard something to my left. When I looked over here comes a bobcat, lucky for him we cannot shoot them. Has this ever happened to anyone else.

I have hunted for some 30 years and have only seen two cats and think that cat made your hunt!!!
That being said if it happened more than a couple times or I wasaching to kill a deerI might get a bit irritated.
I'm guessing some of you see bobcats on a regular basis and some of you would just love to see one.

Planter, I will admit that seeing the bobcat was a first for meseeing one in the wild. I just wish he could of been a few minutes later. My season has been slow and I was wanting to fill my tag, maybe today I will have bette luck.

A slow season and a tag needing filling than YEAH that would be a drag.
Did he get pretty close and did he spot you??
I'm sure your camera was at home right where I leave mine. Like my packs not full enough.

I'm with Planter.... you can kill a deer anytime, but seeing a cat in the wild is truly a rarity. I remember one I had one day. My first hint something was up was a squirrel way off really raising cane. A few seconds later another squirrel started only closer. I tensed for what I figured was a big old buck coming down the scrape line I was on. Then a squirrel 30 yards from me started making a racked. He was looking in my general direction just scolding the woods. My eyes were burning a hole in the woods and nothing. I said, that deer has to be right here. Suddenly I saw movement in these ferns growing all over. Ever so slowly this cat raises his head, looks over the top of the ferns and lowers himself back down. One foot at a time he stalked and turned his head slowly looking around. He slowly stalked until he was about 5 yards from my tree where he hit my scent trail coming in. Boy, then he went really on red alert. Up came the head through the ferns. He looked around, lowered himself and took 10 minutes to slink back where he came from. I've since had a couple such encounters and view them as a highlight of the hunt.

We had a guy in this area a couple of years ago that was turkey hunting. He was calling turkey in and he heard something behind him. He thought it was a turkey because a turkey was answering him. All of the sudden a bobcat came out from behind him and jumped on him and attacked him. They think the bobcat thought he was a turkey. Well anyways, he shot off his shot gun and scared the bobcat away. The bobcat bit him in the ear and he had some scratches on him.

About 2 years ago when I was bow hunting I heard some deer crashing through the woods, when they got into view there was a bobcat right behind them chasing them. The Bobcat stopped at the bottom of the woods in a thicket and one of the Doe's ran up by my stand and ran up a small lake dam in front of me...I got my bow ready in case the Doe walked my way but she walked in to the lake and swam across it to the other side and when she got out she blew several times as she ran into the woods on the opposite side of the lake.I waited to see if the bobcat would follow the Doe but he slipped away through the brush.
This past Rifle Deer Season in Nov. on the first morning I sat in a ladder stand and saw several small Bucks chasing Doe's and I had a coyote run right towards my stand and pass it to my left and kept on running...about 30 minutes later 2 small Bobcat kittens walked up to my stand and their Momma Bobcat stayed a few yards behind them.I watched them for about 15 minutes and they walked off down a logging road!I didn't want to shoot them because it was early in the Rifle Season and they weren't in season until Nov. 15 I believe....that and being shot with a .270 WSM would leave a pretty good size hole if I wanted to have 1 mounted!
