Let me start off by saying that you guys are one of the only groups of people who know wildlife well enough to even attempt to answer this question with any accuracy. This is pretty off-the-wall, but I've always kinda wondered...
You see how wild animals interact with other animals (both wild and domestic):birds land on a deer's back; deer will walk right past a herd of cattle as if they're not even there;wild turkeys will practically stand under a whitetail's belly; etc.
Throw a human into the equation: They run for their lives. They associate the human form and odor with life-threatening danger.
But that's not a hard-line rule either, because there are times when deer/turkeys/squirrels do not fear humans at all...
Even with those exceptions, I think it's fair to say that animals react to other animals differently than they interact with humans. Especially when a human is viewed as a threat.
So...
What if you were to try hunting deer (or turkeys), while wearing an animal suit?
Maybe dressed as a cow. Or a whitetail. Or a horse. What abouta big, non-threatening whitebunny? Or a gorilla?
Could you just get down on all fours and walk right up to them?
Would you have to take a "passive," or "disinterested" posture?
Would they run away in horror at first glance?

My gut says that a whitetail would freak out. First, if they winded you, I reckon that they would trust their nose, and hightail it. Even if they didn't - just any humanoid form would be associated with danger enough to clear them out.
So you'd have to stay low and appear as non-threatening as possible - just to have the slightest chance... Even then, I think most whities are high-strung enough that they wouldn't tolerate you getting too close.
Turkeys, on the other hand - maybe a different story. Turkeys react oddly to certain things. You just may be able to pull the wool over one's eyes.
Your thoughts? Too bizarre to even think about?

John - if I had that horse suit - I would totally put that thing on and walk right out into the fields where I turkey hunt with a video camera in my hand.
Waiting - You're definitely right. There were indian tribes who dressed as buffalo to get close to the herd.

We have scored many geese with our cow cutout, believe it or not.Black cardboard blob, really. I sort of looks like a cow, but not really. Just walk right up to the flock in a cornfield, for example. The only problem are the guys in the pickup laughing, cars that go by and honk and wave, etc.

While the thought of Fran in a horse costume being sexually assaulted by a rut crazed buck has tears running down my face there is some merit to his idea. A number of years ago, I'm thinking around 2003 there was a member on here who swore that he would see deer in a field 200 yards away and get down on all fours and slowly make his way over to them. He said he would move back and forth on his way over with his head down pulling out grass with his hand. Once he got into bow range he would roll over on his butt and draw and shoot. I can't remember who it was, but he swore up and down that it worked.

Just in order of being complete - you guys should see the bunny suit that I own. It's hysterical. $89 from Buycostumes.com "Supreme Bunny"... It may very well be themost ridiculoushalloween costume of all time. LMAO
Anyway.... Here it is.
Could it also be great turkey camo? [:-]

So what? I guess the best approach would be to suit up, then stay low on all fours - and work your way across the open area, kinda working back and forth, acting as disinterested as possible...pulling at the grasses (like an herbivore)?
I KNOW there's gotta be somebody on here who's tried this.
