Quite an interesting hunt. It was about 8:30 in the morning and I have my stand located at the top of a ridge at the tip of a cornfield. I see him about 80 yards away down the ridge and give him a grunt. He looked my direction for a second and just kept on walking. About 20 minutes later I hung my bow up and as I was sitting back down I looked to my left and he was in the brush at the top of the ridge. He must have circled and came to check out what he heard before. Next thing I know he plops his fat butt down and beds for about 2 hours 40 yards from my stand. All I can see is his antlers moving back and forth as he scanned the woods below for the entire two hours. At about 10:30 he stands up and happens to take the trail at 15 yards in front of my stand. He slowly made his way into my shooting lane and I let her rip. I knew when I let it fly it wasn't the best shot. I hit him a little further back then I would have liked to so I decided to let him sit for a while while I went back to the truck to find my partner. We waited about two hours to go look for him and we followed the trail for about 300 yards and it just stopped. After about 2 hours of walking circles I started to get sick to my stomach at the thought of wounding such a beautiful animal and not recovering him, but I wasn't going to give up. I headed to ravine that was about 100 yards away and 90 degrees to the last spot of blood. I looked down and happened to see a speck of blood. I then looked up and saw him laying in the brush about 450 yards from my stand. Thank you LORD.
