1) Aggressive scent control (ie no smoking/clothes washed constantly in unscented/rubber boots, etc)10

2) Rattling5

3) Calling5

4) Invading bedding areas7.5

5) Fastest Bow--need speed2.5

6) Largest broadhead5

7) Scent trail/drag/tarsal glands,etc2.5

8) Camo(no camo is a 1, full symmetric camo is a 10 with face mesh, gloves, etc.)10

9) Hunting all day( 1 is short hunting maybe 2 hours, 10 is an all day sit--your average hunt length over the season)8 and then 10

10) Do you hunt in the rain/wind/elements if necessary? (1 being dry warm conditions only...10 being the roughest weather around---this is not a one time hunt,. rather this is what you would be willing to hunt in for like 1-2 weeks if need be)

Great post! I'm enjoying reading the responses, and thinking about these items. Here are my responses:

1) Aggressive scent control (ie no smoking/clothes washed constantly in unscented/rubber boots, etc) 5 I seldom wash or air out my clothes, but I always wear rubber boots, I'm conscientious about touching vegetation, and the wind is the most important consideration in planning my hunts. I also use vegetation, soil or campfire smoke in an attempt to hide my scent.

2) Rattling 2 I've only tried it a couple times, but I do own a set of rattling antlers, and I believe it can work.

3) Calling 8 I've had some success with grunt calls, and I carry a can call also, and use them on almost every hunt. I blind call alot.

4) Invading bedding areas 10 Dude, that's where deer hang out during shooting light. How else you going to get them?

5) Fastest Bow--need speed 3 I use a Bear Whitetail II that's about 12 years old.

6) Largest broadhead5 I use Bear Razorheads and swear by them.

7) Scent trail/drag/tarsal glands, etc 4 I killed a buck using a scent trail once, but also spooked some deer with scent. I'm a little reluctant to use them, don't want to spook does. I'm thinking about hanging a white handkerchief with tinks 69 on it for gun season.

8) Camo(no camo is a 1, full symmetric camo is a 10 with face mesh, gloves, etc.) 5 I usually wear wool outerwear, which is natural colors, but not camo per se. I almost always use face cover and gloves.

9) Hunting all day( 1 is short hunting maybe 2 hours, 10 is an all day sit--your average hunt length over the season) 4I have hunted all day, and probably will again, but normally, 3 - 4 hours. Better to concentrate fully, give it all you've got for a shorter period of time, than to hang out, force yourself to be out there, then you're all worn down, burnt out, more apt to make mistakes. I don't usually do short hunts either, if I go, I want the time to get into it fully.

10) Do you hunt in the rain/wind/elements if necessary? (1 being dry warm conditions only...10 being the roughest weather around---this is not a one time hunt,. rather this is what you would be willing to hunt in for like 1-2 weeks if need be) 5 Bow season is long, you really don't have to hunt in crappy weather. I have and will, but for the most part I wait for decent conditions.

So farmcntry---by looking at your responses I take it you are a "basics are best" type guy who hunts long, hard, and is persistent. No special gadgets, just the guts of the hunt. True?
