Dad's Biggest Ever
Well guys, i know that this isnt bowhunting, but it was a very special hunt for me and i thought i would share it with you all.
This weekend was the opening weekend of gun season in MO. I only could go down to deer camp (where i got started hunting) for one day. This is a tradition that we have had for years and even though i dont gun hunt now, i still love to go down there and spend time with all the guys and hang around the campfire.
This year it was my goal to get my dad a good buck. He hasnt even hunted the past 4 or 5 years just becasue he likes to go with us and watch us hunt. He has watched my brothers and all all take great deer so i figured it was his turn. Hopefully i paid him back just a little bit of the debt that i owe him for getting me started in the outdoors. I have him to thanks for my hunting addiction!
Heres the story:
We headed down to our farm in central MO. I couldnt get down there till late friday night, so i didnt have time to hang the stand that i wanted to hang and hunt with my dad in the morning and the stand that my dad was hunting was not a good one for filming so i ended up hunting with my little brother.
Mid-day my dad and I went back to the area where i wanted to hang the stand. We slipped in there, got the stands hung and were out without disturbing anything. That evening we got back in there and hadnt even got set up when we had a doe slipping out of the bedding area. That was the only deer we saw till the sun was going down. Then another doe came out of the bedding area followed by a small buck. I then heard something to the east and looked and saw a deer. It was through some thick stuff but i got my binoculars up and could tell it was a good deer. I could just see his profile view and knew he was a good 10. He headed straight into the bedding area (to check the does, i thought). I told my dad that he would probably be coming out on the other side. Sure enough right before dark here he comes.
My dad doesnt have the vision he used to and was having trouble seeing the deer. I told him that the buck was going to come through his lane about 70 yards out and that i would stop him. When he came into the lane i yelled and stopped him. My dad got on him and squeezed the trigger. He only went about 15 yards and piled up.
It was such an awesome experience to share that moment with my old pops.
Its not a huge buck, but my dad's biggest and he is proud.
