If I could find a hole in the brush to get the arrow through, I'd shoot through the light brush. No hole, no shot. No way I'm flinging an arrow at 48 yards either.

Brush and arrows do not go to gether you run the risk of a arrow deflecting and making a bad hit. I would shoot the 48 yard shot but if you rattled him in he is going to be alert had he just been feeding by I would much rather have the 48 yard shot.

Ok, you take shotsaccording towhat you're confident in right? Well, IF the conditions were right, the deer was not alert, not much wind, and a clear shot. A 48yd shot isn't THAT much. For me personally, conditions right, I would have no problem taking that shot. I know my limitations. 80% of my practice shooting comes from 40-60yds. In the situation you're talking about, I would probably not take a hard quartering away shot, but if it's just a slight quartering away, I might think about it.

Most of the time where I hunt, I wouldn't even consider that shot, just because I hunt inside the woods alot.

It is one of those things bowhunting is all about situations , limbs, body language of the deer, position of the deer

Neither, just wait or dont shoot, its not worth wounding an animal or going through the personal heart ache of knowing that you took a bad shot on the buck of a lifetime.

If was ever going to shoot thru brush it would have been yesterday at the deer I wrote about in my "can't my head back in the game" thread. But even at a couple yards I won't do it especially with mechanical heads that would catch on ANYTHING and flip.

There are a lot of people who could make a 48 yard shot nearly every time. There are many more who can't but would try it anyway because they shot a good group at 50 yards once. I say shame on them.

It sounds like you made a great decision. Like has been said, I would only shoot through very light brush that is within inches of the deer. Anything beyond 6 inches away could make too big of a difference. 48 yards is a real stretch with a bow on a whitetail. The kill zone isn't all that big and they are crazy fast when they hear that bow go off.
