call/rattle sequence question
Well I am heading home from school to hunt friday and saturday. The bucks are up and moving around a lot. I was curious what is the best call/rattle sequence. I would assume a grunt call, but what do I want to sound, a tending grunt, or what. How often should I do this sequence.
Thanks fellas!

RE: call/rattle sequence question
The larger bucks don't seem to want anything to do with calling in my area right now. I hit my Can call 3 or 4 times in several directions about 20 minutes apart..then hit a few short grunts in between with my Buck Roar. I've had younger bucks come storming in, usually all worked up.
Last weekend, my buddy and I hunted about 300 yards away from each other. He'd do his series of calls, then I'd do mine. We had 3 small bucks working back and forth between us. We were hunting over corn too, you could hear them breaking stalks trying to get to us...it was neat.

RE: call/rattle sequence question
My hunting partner and I have had good luck the past few days with rattling. Rattle pretty loudly for 30-45 seconds near scrape lines and then wait about 45 min or an hour and try again. We have seen 6 different bucks the last 2 days hunted Haven't had much success with any calls yet byI am predicting that will change (in my area anyway) over the next 2 weeks.

RE: call/rattle sequence question
We are also showing signs of buck movement. loud contact calls are better right now. Rattling should be done sparingly but with light to moderate force. Do not go for the fighting sound. But a slight bit more than the sparring. listen to aggressive rattling first and then tone it down a bit. The grunts should remain moderate also.
Try this sound page first and then follow the advice for this time period.

RE: call/rattle sequence question
I think it depends on the area you hunt. Up here in NE Indiana, the bucks have been getting rough for at least a week now. They've been going at it pretty hard that I've witness since the 20th or so.
