Default Deer are tough animals

Got a call from my dad last night. The 140" 10 point that he had seen twice this season was shot by one of our neighbors. He also practices QDM, so we are happy that he got this buck and not a different neighbor. Anyways, the buck came in chasing a doe and our neigbor made a pretty good shot. The buck was broadside when he shot, but must have turned slightly towards him after releasing the arrow. The arrow went through one lung, the liver, and clipped the guts. They found good blood the whole way and the deer ended up going nearly a mile! He found the blood trail to confirm a good shot, got some help, and tracked him a couple hours later, so they definitely didn't push him. I wasn't there to see it all happen, but I'm very surprised the deer made it that far. It was a 3 1/2 year old buck, my dad guessed it weighed 160 dressed, but didn't weigh it for certain.

Whitetails are tough animals!

yep, it boils down sometimes to more than hitting the right organs, but hitting the major artieries and veins in them....deer do not travel w/o blood.

Sometimes you just get one that leaves you scratching your head....I have seen a double lung(not centered though) go half a mile and a liver+1 lungshot deer go a little farther than that. I have also seen several liver shot deer go<100 yards.

congrats to the neighbor, I am glad he kept with it.
