NEVER put the doe scent directly on the deer. It will quickly spoil and smell terribly of amonia. That will make that buck put his nose right up in the air and quickly retreat. A scent bomb on the ground right by it will work just as well without any negative effects afterwards.
Before every trip when I use my decoy, I always try to make sure that I wash the decoy in scent free soap. Always handle with rubber gloves, and always try to do whatever possible to not let your skin come in contact with the decoy. When you get it set up put the some scent free spray on it.
Hope that helps, nothing is fool proof with decoying, but it can make for one exciting hunt when it comes together.
