RE: First Deer of 2007
Thanks everyone. Yes he is an Iowa deer. I was hunting high and he was about 10 yards off my left side. I hit him good, but hit the opposite shoulder. So hardly any blood at all. I give him about an hour, and wouldn't you know, it started to rain. I had a good fix on where I last saw him so we started looking for blood and got the first blood at about 50 yards. Then a little more here and there. At about 100 yards we found the arrow. After that no blood at all. The arrow fell out right on the edge of a grass field. We couldn't find any blood at all, and it started raining harder. We looked and looked for blood (5 of us) and could not even get a small spot anywhere to let us know what way he went across the field. We met back at the arrow, and decided that he either went left along the timber or right and ducked back in the woods. My daughter and I headed right and My buddy Cory headed left. We were looking at every leaf, stick, rock ad track trying to find anything. About a half hour after we split up at the arrow I was beginning to wonder to my self if the meat would make it throughthe night without spoiling. I knew that where I hit him was going to kill him, if we could just find some blood. Then it happened I heard Cory yell. I asked my daughter what he had said, and she said "He's got blood" We found him 15 yards after the last blood and that was that. WHEW!!!!
