Clothing Question
Hey all I am looking for a good quality Warm Garment in like a parka and Bibs combination for a hunt I am going on next month in Iowa. I have never been to Iowa and I finally drew an archery tag after three years. They said it can get pretty cold even the first of November. So anyways I need to get something in case it is real cold when we go. The main thing is it needs to be Bow Hunter friendly Warm but not real bulky and most importantly QUIET!! Any and all Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

RE: Clothing Question
I dont have a good suggestions. I wear a pair of coveralls when I bow hunt and it is cold. It is a little tight to draw but I shot a doe last year wearing them. I am looking to get jacket and bibs though. Just dont rule out the coveralls if you get tight on cash.... or maybe have some at the house already.

It depends a lot on where in Iowa you're gonna be (north vs south), how exposed to the wind you'll be, and what the actual temps turn out to be.
The weather here can be extremely variable. Last year during shotgun season (2nd week of december) it was 52 degrees. The year before the same week it was 12.
I don't know as far as specific recommendations, but I usually do a base layer of under armour, then long sleeve t-shirt and layer on top of that as needed based on the forecast low. That way you can always remove layers. I'd much rather have too much clothes on and drop a few layers than freeze my @$$ off.
That said, Cabela's has a nice line of Mossy Oak camo that has a pretty decent pattern with good scent control and arguably more importantly; good insulation at a decent price.
I'm not made of money, so I usually find the name brand stuff I like then look for the Cabela's brand equivalent which is usually 25% cheaper or better.
Good luck!

RE: Clothing Question
Many have tried, and many have failed - to beat wool!
Wool, is quiet, warm even when wet, and tested by time. Go try to find another product that people (or real hunters) have used for such a long time to stay warm and dry; it isn't out there.
Good luck,
KP

RE: Clothing Question
Load up on those little disposable hand warmers too. Throw them in your boots, gloves, hat, coat pockets... wherever you get cold stuff them nearby. I really get cold easily and have to wear a ton of clothes to hunt WIs late season, the handwarmers help shave a layer or two off.
