Going on an Urban hunt in WV tomorrow
Urban in WV..hahah. Sounds like a contradiction of terms.
Anyway. It's 2 weeks before bow season opens and a local park has opened up to bowhunting beginning tomorrow. You can take 2 either sex deer and it does not count against your license. Cost =$5.
The odd thing is that they don't even post signs at the entrances letting visitors know there is hunting going on at the park. There will be all kinds of regular park visitors especially since it will be like 70 degrees. I'm sure it might be shocking to little Janey on the swing set when a deer comesrunning out of the woods with my arrow sticking out of it. They'll be little league football games going on and everything. Seems odd.
Oh well, Can't wait to get out there in the morning. It's been a long off season

sounds like a good time. I know of a few monsters taken on urban hunts.
Does anyone know how you go about getting a permit to take a deer w/in city limits? I have one in my neigborhood that is amazing.. and eating up gardens and what not. Just call the division of wildlife? Tell them its a pest? etc..

Danny, Is it Barboursville park you are referring to. I tried that in 2003, the first year they did it right before I moved to IL. I think I went out once or twice, I got mad and never went back when a bunch of people rode by on bikes. Hope you have better luck with it than I did. Good luck my man.

Sure is Chris.
I've gone the past 2 years. Only 3 total days.Last year they had a mountain bike race on 1 of the days I went. That didn't work out well. The other 2 days I saw deer, both times within bow range butonthe first one Ididn't like my shot angle and on the otherI let a buddy take the deer. I hunt on the 4H camp side down by the river.

I know there are alot of deer in there. Including some nice bucks, I used to see them at the edge of dark while I was fishing the lake there. I also hunted near the river. I parked in the main parking lot and walked down the left side of the lake towards the river and had a treestand back in the woods near the river. Thats where the bikers came through. Keep me udated on how you do tomorrow.
