Absolutely!! I have been using one for three seasons and have recovered
four deer we couldn't find otherwise. Walking and panning the woods.
They take some getting used to though. At first they just light or bleep
constantly. But after you get used to the regular sounds, you can distinguish the true target sounds. True affective range in thick woods about fifteen yards. On open woods fifty. Clearcuts seventy five. Practice on friends in the dark. Use the ear plug for sound. Much more affective. Work best in colder conditions. You get false readings when hot outside.
Good Luck!

It probably depends on the quality. If you know anyone in the local fire department seeif they can help with their thermal imaging camera. Most of the departments around here have one and they work great! (It helps that I'm a Captain on one of the engine companies here!)

How can someone bowhunt 4 years and have to use a heat seeking thing-a-ma-jig to find 3 of 4 deer. I could have possibably used one ONCE in 83 tries. I think the thing is at best useless for most people in most woods. What do they want for these things anyway...$200-300. It's called going slow, tracking and following the sign. It all starts with a well placed arrow and you can watch most of them drop dead. I really wouldn't waste my money. Really, I can't think of any place it was needed or necessary to justify buying one. I know, and someones going to say if it can save you one deer it's done it's job. BULL HOCKEY. You're better off with a kid with good eyesight who's not color blind. I equate it and place it in the same category as the Steady Eddy, Cough Surpressor and maybe the camo toilet paper.

In a club with forty five members it is easy to use it to find 4 deer in four years.
Some people use tracking dogs too. I guess you would rather just say
"Oh I must have missed it!" or worst "Well I guess I lost that one!"
Now that would be the bullhocky as you call it.
