I don't know if anyone else has noticed this....but a little beofre dark.....I notice the squirrels going to nest....and then the woods quieten down for the last little bit of light. I see the wind die down at this time a lot, too.

What a time!

I know exactly what you're talking about...I call that "deer time" since I know the squirrels have gone up!!

I like them. Where I see squirrels there are oaks and acorns and where there are acorns there are deer. They also keep me thinking deer are coming which keeps me awake and focused and ready for when the deer come. They are also entertaining to watch.
Me too! I don't mind it when the squirrels are around feeding, this means the woods are at ease, and the deer sense this. If they are barking at ya, your moving around to much and the deer can see ya!

the past three times i have been out i have never heard the deer walk up on me, i saw them first all three times. I usually do, but for some reason not these past few times. Squirles can get annoying, but it gives me something to watch wheni see no deer!

Bubbahoo,

You aren't hunting in La. I hope.

I used to like playing around with the tree rats, but now they usually just annoy me, especially when telling
the woods I'm there.

I don't think a squirrels eyesight is as good as a deer's. I would take bets on a staredown at 20 yards
with a squirrel to one at 40 yards with a deer.

In the woods, I often rely on sound, especially when its close to dark. We have a lot of palmettos and
thick stuff so it's hard for anything to be super quiet. But I normally prefer seeing the deer first, b/c
a lot of times by the time you hear them they are getting too close.

I've noticed the same thing as you guys.

But I'd also like to say this; if any of you are always getting busted by squirrels, you're moving too much. It really is that simple. Bring a few old arrows with either old broad heads or field points, and kill any squirrel that gives you trouble, and I'd do it as soon as he starts to chatter. I've never had to kill more than one though.

I'm a little bit afraid of squirrels. They get that crazy-eyed look in their face, and then sometimes they can be pretty territorial.

I'm just waiting for one to pounce someday, and attach himself to myface like that killer rabbit in Monty Python - maybegnaw my ear off or bite into my jugular or something...

I hate squirrels.

I've always wanted to spritz one down with some Xtra strength pepper spray - just to see what would happen. You know, wait until you get one of those really aggressive ones that's all fired up with the crazy eyes and twitching tail- and BAM! Hose his furry ass down right good. I think he'd go down like Barbaro.

He might come back good and mad then.

Its pretty hard for me to rely on sound right now, the acorns are falling so fast it sounds like its raining, then when a slight breeze comes along, forget about it!

Squirrels i can take, at least something is moving. This AM, I figured i would sit for a total of 45 minutes before work and here i am in the tree early waiting for light and feel something on the ol' neck. Swat away and then again. Got me thinking that for one it's too warm and two "Could this tree have a bunch of.............ants?" Yup all over the place, the bark was a moving with the little buggers. That ended my morning hunt quick. Boy we need a good frosty morning to sit. Speaking of frosty, got a wedding this Sat. that will take care of my hunting that day too, oh well.
Later boys!
