Butt Out tool; useful or crappy?

All depends on how you field dress the deer. I just cut a slit big enough to get into. First I cut the throat and sever the esophagus, then I trim around the anus with my knife, then cut the slit near the rib cage. Then I reach in and pull in the guts out along with the colon and anus. After that I cut the diaphragm and take the lungs, heart and esophagus out.
This leaves me with a small slit in the belly, a slit in the neck and a hole in the hind end. I prefer this over splitting the whole deer in half. I get kind of messy but the deer remains nice and clean while I drag it and take it to the processor.
While I could see the purpose of this tool, I just don't see the need for it. I can do the whole thing with one sharp thin bladed knife. I really don't like carrying more crap than I need to.

Do you use it? If so what do you think of it? Is it worth carrying the extra item around with you? If you are going to post at least make a contribution to the topic.

Ha, your the guy that said it worked great. Guess I missed that, my bad.
I'm not going to apologize for being able to type and making longer posts. If you have been around a while you should know I'm not known for my short to the point posts. If you don't want to read them just skip them. I often skip or scan long sections of text unless it is something that really peaks my interest.
I never thought of carrying an extra knife as a bad thing? However I will give you a hint. Forget your knife or some other major piece of gear and it darn near guarantees you will kill a deer.
I will add that I don't own property, don't own a truck or an ATV. So I hunt someone else's land and often have to walk a ways to my stand and also drag the deer for a ways to get access to it to load it into a vehicle. So I try and travel with the least amount of stuff as I can. Normally what I can fit in my pockets and a belt with a bunch of pockets in it. I don't use a back pack or anything.
My deer get field dressed where they drop, and I have to drag them from there so I can only use what I can carry on my person. Sometimes less is more to me.
Just my opinion though.

I didn't feel the need to give a story on how to gut a deer or how I dont like to carry extra tools but will carry an extra knife. I have always tried to be polite on these forums.

I seen the tool advertised and also wondered if it worked well. I do it the old fashioned way. Cut around the anus and pull everything out. The tool would just be more for me to pack along. I like to travel light and compactwhile hunting. I like to be prepared, but I don't need all the unneccessary items. To me it's just an item that I don't need. JMO

Just used it last Friday, and it worked great. Its really nice to disconnect the intestines in about two seconds when its zero dark thirty, and you want to get to bed. I do agreet that it is an extra piece of equipment. But it really does work nice. Pull, tie, and cut. I personally hate "ringing" the anus. Just make sure and wipe the poop off when youre done....Horse a piece when you talk about extra equipment, but for speed it cant be beat. IMO.. To each his own I guess...Good luck this year guys. Now I'll just shut up, or would you say "Butt Out"?? LOL. Cya.

Seems to be taking things out the wrong way. I pull the thing through the cavity and out with the innards not out the shoot. I thought the point was not to cut open the crap tube when dressing. if those barbs were the other way I could see it working fine.
I aint using it. They did make it the right color though. I hate it when they make tools in a color that you'll never find after you set it down. Wouldn't mind if they made some knives that color. A camo tool especially an expensive one like a radio or gps is just stupid to me.

I bought one this year, but have not used it yet. I will give it a try though if I happen to get one. For $8, its worth a try. For those asking, you are suppose to use it before you start field the field dressing. Put it in twist it, pull out, tie off and cut.
