RE: favorite hunting quotes...
Bawanajim, we have disagreed before, but you are dead on target about Uhuru. Not a popular book, but very well worth the read, and very sobering to boot.
I believe the mentioned quote actually came out of "Horn of the Hunter" did it not? I like all of Ruarks books, and may have them all, I am not sure. Ruark was a drunk, but his passion for hunting and for Africa cannot be disputed, nor his ability for writing.

Here are a few -fsh:
Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgment.
Rita Mae Brown
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
Douglas Adams
What one has not experienced, one will never understand in print.
Isadora Duncan
The years teach much which the days never knew.

RE: favorite hunting quotes...
lets see if I can remember this one....
"Every morning in Africa a gazelle awakens knowing that it has to run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten"
"Every morning in Africa a lion awakens knowing that it has to run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death"
when it's all said and done "It doesn't matter if you are the lion or the gazelle; when the sun comes up you'd better be hauling ass"

All of his books are fine reading and I can't think of a better gift for a young hunter today than. "The old man and the Boy". The lessons to found in this book are surly missing in our young hunters today. The lessons learned from a covey of quail is as true today.
Ruark's ethics were beyond reproach and I doubt there will ever be a mangivenhis talent with the written word.
Most of his books can be found on ebay if you watchfor them.
I will never part with mine .
With ageI find "The Honey Badger" a very humbling read.

RE: favorite hunting quotes...
My favorite saying is one that applies to life in general, as well as to hunting:
God grant me...
the will to change the things that I can change and the insight to know how I should change them,
the patience to gracefully bear those things I cannot change,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
