Default Where do you need to improve??

For me, I need to make major improvements in "hunting the wind". I start off every season with the idea of not hunting a certain stand unless the wind is just right. I start out doing pretty good with it, but as the season goes on something will happen to make me break the cycle.

I am not doing so well on the whole "killing deer" part of this. I hope to improve on that this season.

Getting an adult to come with me is the hard part.

I fidget too much on stand. And I catch myself taking shortcuts.

No one in your family hunts?

I've never been real good at the 'sitting on stand' thing. I'd always get up and go looking for the dang deer after sitting for an hour. Can't stalk the woods like that any more, so I need to ramp up my patience.

Oh gosh, this is arather long list.....

1. Identify preferred buck bedding areas and piece together the puzzle

2. Plan better entry and exit routes to my stands

3. Don't overhunt my stands

4. Don't hunt where everyone else does

5. Play the wind better, understand it's not just it's "general" direction I'm concerned with. I need to know what it's doing in certain terrain.

6. Locate and hunt more terrain funnels.

7. I took an excellent approach to odor control last year, but this year I am going to be all but odor paranoid.

8. Be patient. Sit all day, dark till dark.

9. Don't hunt mornings until very late October. Don't let the desire to hunt ruin my spots.

10. Identify late season food sources, and hunt them.

11. Find more property to hunt.

This list could go on for days.....[&:][&o]
