I'm shooting carbons. Don't do a lot of shooting at bales, but there is this place right near where I work where a large hay stack is 20 yards downwind from a nice insulated shed with a garage door facing the haystack. You can stand in the shed, out of the wind and reasonably warm, and shoot into the hay stack. At 20 yards, keeping the arrows between the wires on the end of the bale isn't too tough. At least so far, I haven't hit one. Sometimes I remember to bring the Block 4 X 4 or the Morrel target, and set it in front of the bales- but if not, the bales will work.
