I have stands at every differnt hieghts from 12ft to 30ft. It all depneds on the topography, cover, and wind. Find what works to best and where you feel the most comfortable .

I think my lowest is 17 and my highest 28. I really like to be at least 20 on a good straight tree with some background cover. Whether it helps or not, I feel that being at least 20 will reduce some of the wind issues, especially if on a good trail. Just be safe and wear a safety belt.

I try to get into the branches and leafs or as close as possible to break up my outline. Usually 20-30 ft.

I let the terrian I am hunting dictate the height at which my stands are.

Here in SC, its hard to find a good mature tree of any kind. If I can climb 20-25ft and still have good line of sight, then I climb that high. In many situations you can "out climb" your line of sight and actually hurt yourself.

My two most used stands last year were totally oppoistes of each other. One was a lock on that is in a small pine. Its about 11ft off the ground. I had deer come and sniff my tree steps, but never looked up.

The other is on the same tract of land, but in the creek bottom. Its a climber that I use to get about 25ft up a Sweet Gum. I have had deer look dead up at me.

So, to be honest.. I don' tthink that height really gives the hunter any advantage other than being able to have a greater line of sight.
