If you could change your state's deer season

If you could change your state's deer season
Would you change the dates?
I would. I'd have our archery opener start on Oct. 1.....and run through January. I don't "think" the bucks drop here until after that date.....and, if nothing else, make the maonth of January "antlerless only".
For me.....it would be worth it to give up the patternable Summer buck hunting of early Sept......to get better hunting temps for the ENTIRE season.

These are my favorite posts, I love setting the rules!
First off, sunday hunting would be allowed.
1. Archery would run Oct 1 thru Jan 31.
2. Gun season would run the saturday after thanksgiving to the following sunday. (9 days)
3. Early ML and youth/senoir special rifle would be eliminated
4. 3 weeks following the close of gun season, the flintlock/Xbowseason would open for14 days. (saturday start, sunday close) regardless of when Xmas fell.

If the deer lose their antlers in jan. and you made that month anterless only then you would be shooting some bucks without antlers. I wouldn't like that.

RE: If you could change your state's deer season
Great question.
First Sunday hunting is on.
Secondly, one area I hunt is in Southeast VA(Chesapeake, VA Beach) I always get good trail cam pics and see some good bucks in the spots I hunt there. Unfortunately gun season comes in first in those two cities (Oct 1) so by the time I get to bowhunt it there has been 2 months worth of gun hunting. I would change it to match the rest of the state with bow season coming infirst.
And finally, in NC where I hunt I agree with GMMAT I wish archery came in in October.

I would eliminate Sunday Hunting
I would shorten the window of the bowseason that crossbows could participate in (not intended to start a debate but a question was posed as to what I would like to see happen).
I would institute a Life-time hunting license in the State
I would give one either-sex deer tag free with the first Doe checked in.

I'll add that Bear Season should include at least one weekend day (not deer-related, just a peeve of mine), and that the antler restriction should be expanded to 4 points, statewide.
