Default Deer Mount question?

Does 21 inches seem right for the circumference of the neck on a mount judging by my pic of this buck? I went and brought the rack in last friday and should be ready in 2 weeks. The son showed me the form and seemed small.

21 inches looks right to me. That measurement is taken right below the jaw, that is why is sounds like a small number.

21" is a big neck. Unless it is a Canadian deer I think you will be OK.A lot of forms only go up to 22" on the measurement right behind the ears.

If you did your homework and picked a good taxidermist, I wouldn't worry. A good taxi lives and dies by his measurements.

I killed one in 1996 that field dressed 240 and I am pretty sure he is on a 21 in form. That measurement is taken right behind the ears around the neck and under the throat, the smallest point of the neck. It is also after the hide is off, so you are only measuring the meat. What pose are you getting him done in?

Yeah, I'd say 21-23" would be about right for a 220lb field dressed buck. The neck will flucuate in size depending on the time of the year, but usually a mature midwestern buck would be within that range.
