Most of the ones that I get mounted, that field dress between 190 and 205, have 23-24" forms. The 220 lb deer I shot in Ill. had a 28" form. Most of these were shot in November. Usually earlier season deer have slightly smaller forms.
I have watched my buddy mount many deer and have saw countless others at his studio and have never saw a 23+ inch neck on a whitetail...... Please post photos.

What would be the pourpose of GregH comming on here saying something that isn't true? If he says his mounts used those forms I believe him. I mean they do make the bigger forms for a reason right? I never seen Jesus but I believe he exsit.

In my opinon that seems small, I shot a 145lbs. 8 ptr. during this past seasons gun season and it had a 24 inch. And I do know what I am talking about, I see enough deer in that I can tell pretty much by looking at them what they will measure. The only thing I can say is if the taxi. measured it after is was tanned and it was dry tanned than you probably lost a bit. I get mine all wet tanned and get the measures before and after tanning, and there isn't much difference, but when I started out with the dry tan I couldn't seem to get all the strech out of them. Here is a pic of the one I shot with a24 inc neck. and for those who want to disagree with me, we grow em bighere in wisconsin, especially in late october november.

Does 21 inches seem right for the circumference of the neck on a mount judging by my pic of this buck? I went and brought the rack in last friday and should be ready in 2 weeks. The son showed me the form and seemed small.

GregH, Hey pal I believe you. Do you happen to know Dave Funk out of Kenosha?
He is doing the mount for me.

I can't say how big that deers neck is but my neck mesures 18.5 inches around the smallest part and that deers neck is a heck of a lot larger than mine.

Judging fromcomparing the deers neckand your neckin the picI would have to say that 21 seemsa bitsmall. Even taking into consideration that you are sitting behind the deer.

In measuring a few mounts in the shop that are Florida and Alabama deer they measure 19 - 23 inches in diameter. These are 150 - 180 pound deer.

Alright I just talk to the taxi and its 22 inches and he said thats about it for that buck. He says when
you kill it the hair sticks up and things like that and if i wanted it bigger that it would have a gap down the back
and just would look like crap. I will post the mount in about 10 days. Thanks for all of your input on this.

Yhanks for solving this issue, I hope. A 22" neck is a whopper in any book. They may get bigger, but not many.

I agree with GregH,that sounds small to me.

Here is a picture of a deer that measures OVER THE HIDE behind the ears 24"'s.

The deer in my avatar measures 26"s behind the ears BUT it was a huge bodied deer.

A 21" is small as is a 22". If the pictures are right and it field dressed over 200" it should fit a 23-24. Here in kansas a 21" is about a 2 1/2 yr old with proper fleshing!!! Some 3 1/2 yr olds are that way also but remember ever taxidermist is different. I do all my own tanning and fleshing and shave mine as thin as possible. I never had anybody say that the neck is to big. I killed my buck on Oct.12 and he field dressed 185" and was a 3 1/2 yr old and it is going on a 23" tight MEARS form. You can see some of my work on my website bucksnbeardsllc.com. Doug

peakrut,
that seems about right, that would put that cape at23-24 inches depending on form and size of swell. Good luck and I hope everything turns out for you............ttl
