I need 50 bows! Can you help?
We are having an annual banquet for our bowhunters association, and I am trying to find a way to save some money on youth bows that we hand out for all the kids that attend. I'm limited budget wise, so I figured I would explore all avenues that I could.
So far I have researched some on-line bow sellers, and have found better rates than what they had spent in the past, but was curious if any of you had ideas on where else I should look.
This is a non-profit organization, and I do plan on speaking directly with the bow manufacturers such as Indian Archery. What we are looking for are beginner recurve/long bows. Compounds have been ruled out from past experience. I am not posting a wanted ad here, just looking for ideas and avenues to explore.
Thanks guys!

Have you checked with the local shops to see if they'd donate 5 or 10 per shop? ABA pays half the shop pays half?
How about making them out of Rattan? Simple, cheap, easy, and effective! The bow will outlast there willing to shoot or until they grow into a bigger bow! Plus it looks better then those cheapo blue and red fiberglass bows. Heck for that matter let me know when your in town again, I might be able to wheel and deal a bit with my contacts. Stop on over or shoot me an email!

Thanks for the replies and e-mails guys. It looks like we have found a distributership that is willing to help out, and we are also going direct to a couple of bow manufacturers and seeing what they can do for a non-profit organization.
Dan, we checked with two shops so far, and they couldn't come close to beating the price that we have found elsewhere, so I'm not sure if that avenue will work. I agree that I would like to see more than an indian archery bow given out, but budget wise, that is about all they can afford unless they can find someother outstanding deal.
I get home next week for three weeks, so I'll stop on by and say hey. Are you going to the ABA banquet this year?

I hope to go, that dont mean I will, last year was a prime example. Things came up and we ended up not doing either, go figure lol.
Good on the distrib. I talked to mine, he said the kids bows are going up quite substantially in price in 03. He is getting his from Martin, and one other place cant remember. If the group is willing to foot half or 3/4 the bill I think you'll have a great luck getting the bows. Its a shame the shops wont help out as almost every group is asking for kids stuff one time of year or another.
The rattan is cheap and easy to make into a kids bow, come on over, I'll show you a video on it. The deal is getting the rattan, the harder part. I am not sure of costs etc, but I also know who to contact here, thats if the group is willing to humor the idea.
Also have you talked to Ed Scott? I know he was the one doing the arrows in 01. I also believe he did them in 02. He has kind of a reputation for doing them. I might be able to help on that end, well talk more when you return. (gives me a good excuse to get going with what I have plans to do anyways).
Let me know when you are home and done doing "honey do's" with the wife and daughter and we'll sit down and talk more on the good stuff.

Thanks for the info Dan. I might come over and have you show me how to fletch up oh, say about 15 carbons. I'll have to let you in on who I managed to talk into speaking at the banquet this year, it should be a pretty good turn out when the word is out. They expect to sell out, 400 tickets. We are going to drive down on Friday the 14th, and come back on Sunday probably.
Did you get to see any carbon arrow wounds while you were in Eagle River?

no, we ran out of time to see Dougs hole, but I did talk to Tim yesterday. Come on over on the arrows. I have the jigs, bring your vanes/feathers and glue and we'll fletchem up or I'll send ya back with my fletchers.
I also have idea's for the GNAA banquet for a speaker. One thing that group does is waste a perfectly good evening talking about nothing and raffleing off junk! Hopefully this year we can add more good things and get rid of the BS.
Let me know when tickets come out, I'll nail two.
