I have come to the conclusion that if you could not set up permanent stands during the season that the best one is a hang on or tree saddle (I guess that would qualify asa hangon) with climbing sticks. That way you are not limited in the trees that you can use. With climbers it has to be a relatively straight, relatively limbless tree and those are not always in the best spots.

Asking what type of treestand is best for deer hunting is like asking a mechanic what tool is best for fixing cars.

IMO, climbers and hang-on's both have they're place. Now that I film 100% of the time, I've found hang-on's to be easier to set because they can work at nearly any angle.

The only stand not worth a pooh (IMO) is a home-made deal. A guy spends a grand on a bow and cut's costs on something that supports him 20 ft. in the air? Something doens't make sense there!

I voted hang-on simply as it would be the most versatile. I would prefer to be able to use my climber over all else, but can't always do so.

Hang - on's are better in my opinion as for the brand that doesn't matter , theres alot of good ones on the market today.
I use a Gorilla and a Rivers Edge , they both have big platforms and there good and strudy.

Hang On's with ladder sticks where you are sure they are not going to be taken. (How sad is that)....and climbers for every where else pending usable trees. I find it easier and quicker to loc on a stand and sneak into and up in it than setting up a climber and climbing although I do love my Ol'man climber.

Homemade! My dad and I built one last summer! Its a big box on stilts. I like it because itsa LOT safer than climbing a tree. It has a staircase going up to it!
