Can someone tell me what this means?
Decided to have my Gold Tips refletched, and I stripped off the vanes. I thought this would be a good time to shoot a group bareshafted to see what happened. This is a five arrow group at 20 yards. Does this mean the bow is well tuned, or does it tell you nothing? Either way, I thought it was interesting that they would group that well with no vanes.

Thats a killer group for bareshaft. I have heard some real horror stories from some who have tried it. I dont use it but it will tell you real quick if you're bow is out of tune. I like walkback tuning myself.

Thanks for the inputs guys, but I figured it out. I couldn't find my Easton tuning guide that I'd printed, and I didn't have time to download it on this stupid dial-up. I finally found it. What I didn't know is that it IS the group and the impact point in relation to fletched shafts that is important in bareshaft tuning.
On a note that'll make me sound extremely unobservant, those new Gold Tip Pro Hunters I bought turned out to be fletched STRAIGHT. I never even noticed. No wonder I was having problems with broadheads. Duh.[:@]

Predator,
You know, on second thought, maybe you're right. I did actually get the BHs to group well there at the end. I was always under the impression that the spin helped with accuracy. That isn't why I decided to re-fletch, though. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever learn this sport. Seems like everytime a lightbulb goes off and I think I've got it, something else comes along and smashes that bulb into my head.

Remember all that trouble you were having. The straight fletch was definately PART of the problem.
You definatelyhave it tuned well and getting some helical on there will add some forgiveness to your setup.
I go at it a little differently but will usually end up the same. For me,it is a little less frustrating.

Thanks, TFOX. I guess getting the broadheads to group and THEN bareshaft tuning is really getting it backwards, but I'm pretty sure now that there's some Texas hogs in a world of trouble come 1 June.

I start with a bareshaft through paper and then if that showsI have the proper spine.I will walk back and then group tune. The rest will usually fall into place from there.
