It can't hurt, can it help?
Santa Claus has decided to give me a Scent-Lok suit for Xmas. Although I am still suspect on the hype associated with the scent suppressant suits, it surely can help right? I use the wind and try to stay clean, so can it improve my chances? Any testimonials pro or con?
Talked to a guy the other day and he says he is seeing more deer wearing his, but could that be due to higher deer populations or he is hunting smarter? Even a longtime area hunter who bowbagged a 265lb., 11 pt. buck, swears by it. He says the buck came in as the wind was taking his scent toward the buck.

It cant hurt. I mean, id always think the wind should be played just for common sense and reasurance. But, i wouldnt get careless. Buddy of mine has one and swears by it, had a spike at 10 yards with the wind blowin right at the deers nose, never new he was there. Same with one time when i went hog huntin, a buddy in the camp came up on some pigs bedded with the wind to his back, they never new he was there. I would also say, if your goin to use one, get the whole suit. It would be pointless to have a jacket and then not get the pants or hood or gloves or whatever else there is. Id like to read some feedback from yalls experience also so i konw if its worth forkin over the extra mulah for one.

I have one of those military chemical suits the carbon lined ones.
Altho they get everything you wear underneath black I have found it to be quite good.
I wear my ASAT 3d suit over the top to break up the out line.
I will be wearing it later this week hog hunting and over the week end deer hunting.
The best thing about is it only cost me 40 dollars and basicly does the same thing as the more expensive suits do.

COUGARMAG I would'nt put much stock in them suits' but maybe I'm old fashioned. I'm sure the camo pattern is of excellent quality, but your asking to fool a bucks or elks nose. GOOD LUCK. You're a bowhunter right. That's a lot to ask for. You know a bloodhound is trained to smell the difference between rabbits, squirrels, birds, other dogs or cats and even people, just to focus on particular smell on a jacket rubbed in their face, and they do it pretty well. You can't fool them to easy. How much so for deer and elk, you know that's how they make their living. I'm not knocking the suits, but I'm agreeing with hunter9022 in using common sense and hunt only into the wind. I have a saying, you can fool their eyes and fool their ears but never never their nose. Besides you have to account for the smells of your bow and accessories like arrows, glue on flethings etc. believe you me they can tell. Don't mean to ruin a great gift. But hate to see you miss an opportunity on a critter because of it. elknut1

Cougar, I have a Scent-Lok Savanna suit in Mossy Oak. This fall I had 5 does come up on me, as I was sitting on a blow down. A small doe came to 7 yds and tried to decide if I was dangerous. She circled downwind and was checking me out. After a minute or so, she started browsing. They left in a hurry when I shot a branch between me and a big doe. I do shower with scentless soap and keep my clothes in baggies. Something helped keep me undetected that day.

I have had several deer directly down wind of me and they showed no indication that they knew I was there. I even had a bobcat come from directly down wind and stop under my stand for 5 minutes with no indication of smelling me. I have the scent pro from cabela's because it was the least expensive of the liner systems.

For what its worth, a great hunter passed this information on to me. These suits have there place as a great hunting tool. The reason being that they do not totally eliminate your scent, they fool the deer to thinking that you are out of their safety zone. We all know how keen a deer can smell, but it is our job to do what we can to swing some odds in our favor. I'm personally obsesive about odor control, if a deer thinks I'm 80-100 yards away instead of 10-20 you could see how they can work. Here in Pa were I hunt the deer do not travel a "path" they meander thru the woods, so using the wind only helps to a point. Add in how things just happen... how did that deer get in that close without me catching him before?
Hope this helps some, infact I'm putting a second suit into rotation next season. Happy Holidays to all.

I expect the benefits of wearing such a suit would be directly related to how bad you stink. Soooo, if I can jerk your chain just a little bit.... in your case it can only help.
All funnin' aside... it can't hurt. I have other things higher on my wish list... but that's my list. Take the top item off yours.

One thing to keep in mind when shopping for these scent elimination suits is that they have a fairly limited lifespan- I think it's 2-3 years of moderate use. After that they become just another camo suit. There was a good thread on bowsite about this recently...
A more cost effective solution would be to get a liner that you can wear under your camo. It'll cost a lot less than the camo suit, so it won't hurt quite as much when you have to replace it in a couple of years.
