One big plus to treestands is that your scent is above the deer generally speaking so you have that much better of a chance of not being busted. Also if your in a good tree with lots of cover generally speaking you are less likeing to get busted moveing around.

Why do people choose treestands rather than hunting on the ground, that's easy..............because they realize that thier scentloksuit doesn't work as advertised...[8D].

I prefer to hunt from above for all the reasons previously stated. Besides that, I just love the feel and freedom of becoming the tree. I feel much more like the predator clinging to the side of a tree 20 feet up. I prefer to become invisible. Blinds are much more obvious and can put critters on edge. If I have to hunt from the ground because of a lack of trees or cover I find a ditch, a hole, a blowdown or something natural to sit in. I find blinds too confining and find myself acting like one of those bobblehead dolls trying to see 360. I don't hear well at all and a man made blind makes hearing harder. I just feel closer to nature sitting 20-22 feet up.

Seeing & Scent are my main reason. I like ground blinds though.
Back when my brother & I used to just crawl up in a tree 6-7 feet or a big blown down tree, we have taken many Deer at that height. My ladder stands now are 12' & 15' & the 12 footers I sit so my feet are actually about 10' up. I took this Buck in a blown down tree at 15 yards & my feet were 7' off the ground. I also took a P&Y Black Bear in Canada & my stand was 10'.

Adult brown bears can't climb trees, you just have to choose one big enough that they can't nock it over!! [:-] The limited visibility in a blind drives me nuts.

I like stands because I do long days. I typically hunt dawn til dusk. Being able to see farther out REALLY helps you get through the slow times mentally. I think I might feel like I was in prison if the deer weren't moving.
I have a ground blind and will use it in a traffic area with no suitable trees.
