Heavier arrows
I now have my new arrows. Now that it's too late toturn back, what do you think of this setup:
Arrow: Gold Tip Pro Hunter Hardwoods HD 7595
Shaft Length" 28 1/2 "
Arrow spine: .300
F.O.C.: 11%
Fletching: 4" Duravanes
Broadheads: 125 Grain G-5 Montecs
Bow draw weight: 70#
Draw length: 29"
Total arrow weight: 485 grains
I'm going to go to the range tomorrow and shoot it through a chronograph, but can someone out there tell me approximately what my new speed is going to be?

RE: Heavier arrows
I wasn't referencing anything. It doesn't matter what we think because you said it's too late to turn back. LOL What else is there to say except, hope you like 'em. It's not the arrow I would have bought, but hey, that's just me. I don't ever worry about slow speeds. I bought one of the fastest bows going and have it dumbed down to 252 fps with my short draw and 467 grain arrows, but it sure is quiet and shoots so fine.

I know what you mean.Buckeye told me yesterday that Ishould get around 271 fps with this weight. I can't wait to find out. One thing I can say is I love that soft "fump" sound from the bow when I shoot them. So quiet and smooth. I'll take 485 grains at around 270 fps.

RE: Heavier arrows
Remember that 271 is based on if your 5575's weighed in at 400 grains and 300fps,if they were in the 388 grain range and 300fpslike you mentioned in the other post then you would be looking more at 267.

Buckeye,
I understand. The reason for the change-up is this... my pro shop owner weight my arrows and said they were at 400 grains. When I used the arrow builder on the Gold Tip website, the XT 5575's at 28.5" with a 100 grain point and 4" GT vanes should weigh 388 grains. It could be that the arrows really weighed 400 grains or his scale was out of calibration. Since it's the same shop that sold me $100.00 worth of underspined arrows, I'll assume that the website calculator is closer.I don't know. I'm starting to confuse myself with all of this.
That being said, I'll be happy with 267 fps with an arrow this heavy.

Back in my tourny days my outdoor rig was all about speed. My Bowhunting rig (heavy arrow)is always penetration for me & I have never worried about how fast.
I know I have had complete penetration (60# Compound) on 1000# Buffalo @ 40+ yards, Elk @ 30, & many Deer & Black Bears naming some of the larger animals.
29", 2216 Easton tipped with a 125 gr. 3 blade Rocky Mountain head.
Good luck.

RE: Heavier arrows
the guys are right. if this is a hunting bow who cares about speed?? we know speed doesnt kill and the deer aint gunna know whether they were hit with 330fps of 200fps. im convinced super light carbons wizzing at 300+ fps arent always going to pass through and penetrate as well as a heavier arrow is going to. that heavier arrow is going to carry what it got behind it better than a lighter arrow...even if that lighter arrow is putting out the same KE...the heavier arrow is going to have the edge every time.
worry about accuracy...not speed..if you get caught up into the speed factor youll end up with a headache and alot of money in the toilet.
now if this is a 3D rig and trajectory is important because your shooting for $ or something...then by all means i want a smokin fast bow...that way when i misjudge by a couple of yards im STILL in the X..not a ring or 2 out and loosing points.
