Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain
About 2 months ago I spent an afternoon with on of my shootin' buddies.
We were shooting our spot league and descided to continue to shoot when we finished our score. It was a 4 hour day and needless to say I shot quite a few arrows.
That night I had a throbbing pain in my shoulder. The problem is it's still there. I thought resting it , the sorenesswould eventually just go away.
Anyone have any cures for a sore shoulder or any advise for a 48 year old guy.
I should add that I work out with weights 3 or 4 days a week and it doesn't help.
I don't have any problems w/ range of motion...just some slight weakness once in a while. Do I need to see a doctor?

RE: Shoulder Pain
I had the ssame thing a few years back, fortunately there was minimal damage. I had to have a cortozone shot, i tell ya bud, they hurt like hell, The had to go in twice, Once in the front part of the shoulder and the second was on the side. Shots dont bother me at all but I swear if I ever have to have another cortozone shot, Ill go crazy, thenI had 4 weeks of physical theropy, which wasnt to bad since my theropist is HOT! But I would deffinately go see your doc. It turned out that my injurie was not from over shooting my bow, it was from playing football and baseball.

I used to have a lot of shoulder pain from shooting compounds. Thecams and draw cycleof some of todaysbows can really aggrevate some peoples shoulders especially after years of shooting. The worst thing to do in my case was let up on a compound after pulling it to full draw. In my case, I used to take anti inflamatories before and after shooting, then iced it. Also went to see a chiropractor and MD. After a while of that stuff, I completely gave up on compounds. Not saying that's your case, but it was mine anyway.

Try taking some Advil or Aleve before and after shooting. Not for the pain, but if you have some inflammation either one of those will help. I've got some rotator cuff issues from playing hockey in my younger days and this seems to help me.

RE: Shoulder Pain
I've had bursitis.....cortizone shots (3).....and shouder surgery in my left shoulder.
Lifting weights will only aggravate it, MORE. If it's hurting....rest it. The first thing I'd do is try an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen). That should help....if you've only aggravated it....and reduce the inflammation (duh!). REST IT.
I'd do that before I saw an ortho.
PM me if you want to discuss, further. My shoulder is a medical success story....lol.

I know how frustrating that can be, I just had rotator cuff surgery in December. Where is the pain at and do you have any tender spots when you push on the shoulder at all? Does it hurt when you bench press? Bench is the only thing that I can't do full out because the tendon get pinched a little bit in that position. Also, does it hurt when you put your arms out to the side paralell to the gruond(palms down)? Let us know and maybe we can help a little bit.

RE: Shoulder Pain
It sounds like you aren't getting enough vitamin C in your diet. I powerlifted in high school and the first year I was alway sore after shooting my bow. My Ag. teacher told me to drink more vitamin C. From then on I wasn't ever sore until I stopped drinking as much. That is my advice for you. Its also the cheapest way out.

RE: Shoulder Pain
I had no idea there were so many shoulder problems out there.
I thought it was just me.
I'm going to try the advil and Vitamin C. And the ice.
Maybe I need to lay off the weights for a while too. I'm sure there is some imflamation there.
Thanks to all.
