This argument seems to always get a strong response from bith sides.

I understand that hunters might be hesitant to show the blood and guts on a TV show and I understand that taking a "quality" picture looks good and might be more acceptedespecially to those who don't hunt. I don't think that wateringdown the reality of what wedo is the best route to take for acceptance.

IMO itcould be mistaken by some that we are ashamed ofwhat we do and and that we want to keep it "hidden".I am not saying that we need to act like savages and rub the bloodall over us, but I honestly think we better serve our cause by doing what we do and by not making appologies forit............to anyone.

Most people understand that when you run an aarow though a deers lungs that it's going to bleed. The see the aarow, they see the bow and they know it's purpose.

To me it's not a PETA / PC thing but a class vs. redneck thing. I think a thoughtful, artistic, presentation of a hunt appeals to me much more than a hardcore (no pun intended) approach. I'm not squeemish about it in real life situations but you can't chose to avoid those in RL and still hunt. But when editing a video long after the fact you can chose to avoid those type of shots. I know deer poop in the woods but I don't necessarily want to see it on film. You know what I'msaying? I have that same beef with Hollywood films. They feel they have to show the gritty, seamly side of life to make it "real", but I think it's unnecessary and tacky. I'd like to see a video along the lines of River Runs Through It with beautiful vistas, nice video, and real hunting. But that's just my style.

huntingson....

Have you ever seen a picture of a buck on the contest page with a guy in camo holding its' antlers and wondered if it was alive or dead based on the amount of blood visible or not?

What harm does cleaning the deer up for the photo do???

Our hunts are clean ethical hunts and we just don't risk poor shots and I haven't made a bad shot on a deer in years and as of date, Sarah is right on too. We shoot our bows constantly so as to be proficient with them. Head shotson deerand guts hanging out of deer is just something I am not familiar with andhasn't happened in my 30 years of bowhunting. Sure, if we would shoot a little back or whatever on a big game animal we will show it. If an animals is spined and wiggling a followup arrow would soon follow. I would show it. Head shots on small game will be showed. Turkeys and small game flopping will be showed. If it is legal and ethical, which aremy standards, then it will be showed. If I have say over what is showed than it will be showed. If a producer says no to a part ofmy film clip that is something that I will deal with at the time. Our hunts are fair chase and our archery skills will show.

This post has no winners. People are going to do what they want to do. Cleaning a deer up for the picture is a good idea. But that doesn't mean that when I see blood in the picture I have a problem with it. That's hunting and I love it. Do we leave blood on the deer mount that it had all over it from blowing it out it's nose? I have never seen anyone that did that. Lets face it folks We all love being out in the woods but our main goal is to kill. There is nothing greater then heart shooting one at 20 yards and having a blood trail 2 foot wide. In the end that's reallywhy we love todo it.

Don...

Would you show a poor hit? Would you show a writhing deer that dying?

Why do you think no one else does? It's not being "PC" or selling out. It's being RESPONSIBLE! It's showing TACT!

I wouldn't fault you ONE BIT for not showing those things. I believe you're proficient, too. I have no reason to believe you're not.

I think you'd be doing me (read - the bowhunting community)a HUGE disservice to show those things...just because that's the way it happens in the wild. There's areason people don't do it. There's areason people don't shoot lambs like Ted did. They're not ALL selling out.

ORIGINAL: GMMAT

Don getting along good with co-workers and being good citizens is a far cry from slaughtering a lamb on national TV.

Please inform me how I can lose my right to bowhunt due to this and how this pertains to bowhunting when all he isis a famous bowhunter that shot a DOMESTIC LAMB with a gun to eat. Is the state of MI going to ban hunting due to a bowhunter on a a realty show shootinglamb with a gun? Where is the $$ going to come from if hunting is outlawed. Like I said, ridculous propaganda that the antis actually can derail hunting. THEY don't have the FUNDS!!!

HuntinGus you mean?

Have you ever seen a picture of a buck on the contest page with a guy in camo holding its' antlers and wondered if it was alive or dead based on the amount of blood visible or not?
I guess I ahve not really thought about that. I always assume it's dead if the hunter is holding it.
What harm does cleaning the deer up for the photo do???
No harm at all and I understand why it is cleaned up. I think we do however need to be careful watering down what we do. Not the best route to take imo if we are interested in gaining acceptance.
