Hunting before the rut

Hunting before the rut
does any body have any tactics for hunting before the rut. Last season was my very first season hunting with a bow and I hunted alot before and during the rut but I only saw one small buck since the opening day of bow season.

i concentrate on food sorces. mostly oaks. i have a few spots that have high concentrations of oak and the deer love them.
basicly you have to find the food and the bed and set up between or along them and hope there is a good tree to get in.
