Fox and deer?????
I was in my stand Saturday morning and a fox came in behind me and then went down into a stream bed very near my stand, he was totally out of sight and I figured I would do one blind call with a doe bleat. When I did the doe bleat the fox flew out of the stream bed and took off running like a scalded cat!!! This was the first time I have ever done a call with a fox nearby, and I have never seen how a fox or deer react to each other. Does anyone have any knowledge of how they co-exist?

RE: Fox and deer?????
I have never seen them together Taz, but I have been just a few feet from foxes last year, while hanging somescent tabs. They never new that I was human or they would have run off, so I guess I was doing something right. Later the same morning they walked right through my homemade ground blind, looked at me, took a leak and kept going. I guess I got pissed, at...

RE: Fox and deer?????
Where I hunt the foxes are plentiful, I have watched foxes come in and lay down 20 yards from my stand, I have had does come in, see or smell the foxes and just freeze, then when the fox got up, not going after the deer but just getting up to see what was coming, the does would take off the other way. I dont know that foxes will attack a deer ,an adult one anyway, but they don't seem to like the others presence, I know if you leave a dead deer over night alot of times it is the foxes that get to it first, I have trackeddeer that had only been dead an hour and seen foxes sitting by the animal.I also know that using a fawn bawl in the early season, will sometimes bring a fox hauling tail in to you. It would be intresting to see what some others have noticed. Fox persay cant really alarm deer, I mean they sell fox urine as a cover scent right?

RE: Fox and deer?????
TAZ, I hunt in an area that has an abundance of fox. Deer are not afraid of fox as I have witnessed does actually playfully chasing fox before. I think that the circumstances of each situation dictate the responses from deer or fox. I have seen deer react with alarm when they encounter turkeys yet play with them other times. I think that this fox either reacted with surprise or had a bad encounter with one before.

Basserman it was a young fox, so I guess maybe he had a run in with a deer and decided to evacuate the area when he heard the bleat, next time I see a mature fox I will see how he reacts to a deer bleat, I doubt it could hurt anything.

RE: Fox and deer?????
Havn't seen any foxes with deer in our area but have used fox urine as a cover scent quite a bit and have never had any deer react to it at all while coming into the stand. We have alot more coyotes than deer in our area and the yotes will hang around deer alot (prob. looking for weak animals) but also because they both like the same kind of cover.

RE: Fox and deer?????
While in my tree during November bow season the morning gave way to the riseing sun, and the relife of its warmth from the cold morning. I watched a fox walk right near my scent bombs and countine about 20ft from them and he jumped on a large rock and went to the end where he could look down the valley, he snuggled up and went asleep.
He left about 45 ninutes later, and 5 minutes after that I nailed a nice 8pt 30yds from where he was.
