( why do you think he left) Testament to a deer hearing.
This is also a testament to a deer's hearing, I wear a Walker game ear whenI hunt an Ihadn't heard anything. Thebuckhad locked up an was looking past me,I waswondering what did I do for him to lock up like that all of a sudden.I turned a looked back an there was nothing there.I turned an looked at him an he was leaving. I sat there for about 15 seconds wondering, I could hear something back behind me coming through the woods. The wind started blowing about 35 to 40 mph an it started pouring down raining, I sat theregetting wet an thinking now Iknow why he left. He heard the rain an wind coming before I did even with the game ear in my ear, impressive.

But you see, you're trying to make something up that isn't the case. These critters live in this weather their entire life. You say the deer looked and then left. If your theory is right the rain was coming toward him. What that gets you is the wind was blowing towards him. He smelled your butt. He didn't turn in fear and flee the wind and rain. He left your scent cone.

Thats what I thought but, he was gone before the wind picked up an changed directions an he was on an angle, an he was up wind from me. I understand what you are saying who knows, I just know he was looking past me very intently.

You may not have noticed the wind change, but if the rain was coming and came that quickly from behind you, there were swirls or shifts. It dosn't do a complete turn around with the first rain drops. Sure they can hear, but something that far removed they'll usually hold tigher than a button until they figure it out.
