Celbrating after the shot......

RE: Celbrating after the shot......
I whoop it up. This I made the shot and watched him run off, afterhe was out of sight I composed myself and climbed down and let out a big yahoooo!! when I got back to the cabin one of my buddies said I knew you shot one when I heard the yell. It's all right to celebrate after a good shot has been made. There is a lot of emotion that follows a shot.

I have seen several movies, bothHollywood and Hunting, be filmed.
You have NO ideahowmuch editing and retakes go into a film.

My only comment is this......99% of what you see from the "pro's" on television has been staged. Edited. They don't show the "real deal." Cut aways and editing are what save their bacons....

First thing I do....Thank God. After that, it's hard telling what I'm gonna do. I get ALL FIRED UP NOW! Disrespectful, no, I hardly think so.

I don't know about you guys, but I definitely go totally bananas after I finally get to pull the trigger - gun or bow, doesn't matter. Whooping, talking to myself, fist pumps, jumping around, shaking, hyperventilating, tears, snot everywhere, and the complete inability to even be slightly coherent. I have this insatiable urge to say "BOOM!" "BOOM Boom Boom, yes yes yes" - in conjunct with fist pumps and throwing gear everywhere. Not sure why, b/c I don't even use the word "Boom" during everyday life. Not sure where that comes from. I don't really yell, it's sorta like loud whisper "Booming." I think this whole "Boom" phenomenon is just weird.
The hat goes out of the treestand, headnet - on the ground. Quiver - straight to the ground. Bow, pretty much thrown to the ground (I use the rope, but I basically apply no resistance). Water bottle - launched. Bino's, camera, grunt calls, just haphazardly stuffed in the daypack and either chucked down onto the ground or carried down the tree (if I have that kind of composure left).
Then, like a total maniac, I scramble down the tree and try to gather myself for final approach.
Lately, I've been calling people from the stand to settle myself down before I start climbing down (so as to not kill myself). They can usually understand "Hey, this is me, I got a buck down...." Then, it's juts a bunch of panting and nonsensical rambling about what happened, followed by "gotta go." and I hang up on them.
If I ever stop getting that wound up, I'm quitting.

Generally I pump my fist a few times...that is all. My heart is always racing, so I sit down fast to avoid a fall out of my stand.
If I see him go down, and go down hard, there might be a loud whoop, but I generally dont do this so if anyone else is hunting nearby I dont ruin their hunt.
The real celebration comes when I FIND the deer...
Edit: I cant type today...damn birthday hangover

One thing to notice though, it that it does feel much different when you're by yourself, when compared to having another person (camera man or friend) with you. When I'm by myself, my adrenaline is through the roof, but physically i'm not as excited as people you would see on TV. On the other hand, when I hunt with my wife or a buddy, and one of us get one, then the emotion is shown physically. High 5's, and other physicalemotionstend to flow much better. And that's partially the case on TV. And that's what i've noticed with myself. When you have someone to celebrate with, the celebration tends to be physcially received better.

I think one of the reasons that they get that excited one tv is that they feel alot of pressure to make a goodclean ethical shot on camera. They need to get this on film, No deer = No show. I think also having someone (camera man) that you know up there with you gives yousomeone to share in your success.
Most of us are out there by ourselves, plus not wanting to shout to loud in our only hunting area.
I do get pretty excited myself. I like to sit and calm down, andreplay it through my mind, thank the lord for thisexperience. Sometimes it happens so fast. If I see it drop in view...then I usually reach for my phone, so I can start to share my success.

No big-time whooping here, either. Maybe...Maybe, at most, a little fist pump. Usually it's just the internal satisfaction of knowing a plan came together.
A few years ago a friend called me up on opening day to track a doe he shot at first light. This was his FIRST deer, hunting by himself, mind you. By looking at the blood, the shot appeared a little far back. After tracking for a decent while, and doing the mandatory, '-point finger-.."There She is!!!" we just exchanged a small high-five, and that was it. So yeah, the TV celebrations seem too put on, People seem less excited to win a Grammy.

I don't "whoop and holler" but I do get pretty excited. If you don't, then I don't think you should be hunting IMO.

RE: Celbrating after the shot......
Nope, no celebration here. I'm just in my own little world trying to remember everything that just happened, marking where the deer ran etc. If I hear one more TV guy yell, "That's what I'm talkin' about", I'm going to scream. These over the top folks like Stan Potts really turn me off. I celebrate and congratulate someone else who's killed one more than I'd ever think about or expect for myself. For myself it's just go about my business of getting down, tracking, finding, surveying the situation and the deer, gutting, autopsy and dragging. I don't get into or buy into this "is it disrepectful to the deer yada yada yada". Heck, I just killed the thing.

RE: Celbrating after the shot......
My first kill I practically jumped out of the stand (not a good idea). For the other deer I've pretty much sat there and replayed the whole thing in my mind. I try to remain as quiet as possible. I pretty much celebrate on the inside and thank the Lord for allowing me to harvest an animal. My favorite part, other than the actual kill is replaying it in my mind. That's why I'm usually in no hurry to do anything anymore.
