Default pic of a rub...

this is a pic of a rub i witnessed a buck rub on. you can compare my bow to the size of the tree. if you were scouting what size buck would you think you were finding evidence of?? we all heard big rubs=big bucks right?? while not a MONSTER rub thats a pretty decint sized tree...so was the buck big? decint? or small??

wanted to post this a while ago but forgot till i was looking for my bow pics for another post..ill tell you what made the rubs later..maybe tomarrow night...for comparision i think my stabilizer is 6 inches..you can see the fresh bark on the ground incase you wonder if i am telling the truth..that was 15yds from my stand...

Big rubs don't always equal big bucks.

I've seen a forked horn rub a tree that size, and I've seen larger deer rub trees two inches in diameter.

I'd like to think it wasa big buck that made it, but you can't bet the farm on it.

What I have found alot of times a rub like that, comes from several bucks or more rubbing that tree. It sometimes iscalled a community rub where alot ofbucks rub that one tree to display there domance, just my opinion.

I'm not the authority, but it's been said that a smaller buck will rub just about anything, but a larger buck usually won't rub a smaller tree. They want something to push on...something with a little resistance and a small tree won't do that for a big, heavy buck.

Well from what I've seen more then one buck will rub on a rub. I watched 3 different bucks rub on a tree two years ago, one was a 1 1/2 nice 9 pointer and the other two were forkhorns, so which one if any made it originally.?

honestly from the motion, it curves from lower left to upper right in you picture, If that rub was made by one deer I would say it didn't have much of a basket rack, probably a 2 or 4 pointer
[hr]

I've been known to be way way way wrong. but thats my guess

Are there any holes on the back/upper side of the tree from his points sticking into the bark?

This could be an indicator of a larger buck.

dang....you guys are GOOD! typically i hear guys saying big rubs=big deer..even on some posts on some of our forums.

the buck that rubbed that tree was indeed a little guy. i couldnt count points even with binocs and he was 15-20yds away. id say he was probably a fork horn if he had points. im not 100% sure but i didnt see that rub any other time in there and looked that direction a while in the morning and didnt see it. you can see the big pile of bark..i think he started that rub. a doe came through about 20 seconds infront of him..sweating, panting and trotting hard from him. i stopped her so he would stop..i knew a buck was behind her(it was the start of our rut) and then caught him coming. he came..she kept truckin through the field. i stopped him to count points hoping to put 4 on one side and drill him. but i got the pleasure of watching him rub that tree for minutes. i did get pics of him but the pics of him rubbing makes it look brushier than it was..then when he was walking away i caught everything perfect but his head[:@]

ill have to find a forum with a bunch of newbies or something lol. you guys are good! ill admit..before that i believed bigger rubs like that meant a bigger buck. so many times ive heard big rubs mean big trees...but i learned first hand thats not the case!
