I'd say they aren't the same deer but not based on the pics really but rather the dates. You said one pic is from last year and the other from this year. I'd say it's safe to assume that the pic on the right dated 2005 is last years which means the pic on the left is this years. Looking at the pic on the right you can see it's a young deer with lots of potential. If this is the case then why is his rack smaller a year later? That deer on the right would be a heck of a lot bigger in 06 than that pic on the left. Make sense?

I think it is!!!! Look at the back right leg. It has a line running down it on the hide in the second pick. (Kind of unique) YOu can see the same line running down the bucks leg on the first pic.

Those are both 1 1/2 yr old bucks, the buck with larger antlers is in velvet adn it appears to have less mass, plus his face is still long and skinny, by 2 1/2 a bucks face is getting blockier

I would say its not the same deer because if you look at the first pic that deer has a white patch on its front right elbow. The other one doesnt.
