I know what you're saying, Len....but I also know where Dan is coming from. I injured a fabulous deer on 9/12 of this year....and came here and explained the entire situation to the board. I took my licks.....but it's EXTREMELY frustrating to have people interject scenarios or just plain CONJECTURE to your plea. It is hard when people add things to your story/situation that just aren't there.

It's a double-edged sword......sometimes.

just my thoughts.....and I agree with you to an extent......

It is next to impossible to learn proper form on the internet. I tried it myself and I got a lot of good information, lots of bad information, lots of assumptions, and no guidance. It hurt me more than it helped me and created a lot of issues I had to work through with a good coach. This is why I try to refrain from giving advice online for form, and why you will see lots of people that won't do it either including (I assume) Len.

Even if you can get the form down, there are other things that are just as if not more important such as shot sequence, timing, rhythm, psychology, etc which are all next to impossible to work on without being there in person and having the ability to use video as a tool to capture and see what you are doing. Minor tweaks in your form won't really do much if you don't do these other things as well so unless you are willing to put that dedication in what you are doing is fine.

With all that said, the best way if people are really serious is to start seeing a NAA or NFAA certified coach and plan to take 3-4 months at least of no shooting at anything in particular, just blank bale and then aiming drills.

If you don't have that type of commitment level then what you are currenty doing will suffice and I am sure you can be competitive on the local level in 3D, and probably kill a lot of critters as well. The form and repetition will show up in spots shooting though, thats for sure and it will be difficult to be a well rounded archer in all venues without that type of work. Field archery, FITA, and indoor are very very difficult to be competitive in without this type oftraining/coaching. I really don't know anyonethat has gotten to thattop tier of thesevenues of archery without a good coach and I am fortunate enough to be in an area saturated with people that are extremely competitive on the national and international level..................and they all have coaches.

It amazes me that people will dropthousands upon thousands on equipment and want to grow into being a better archer in general but can't stomach paying for a good coach. It's the best money I ever spent and I would rather have a 10 year old bow in my hand and $$$ for a good coach that I trusted than a new bow and no coach. $400 these days will generally give you enough guidance to work through a lot of this stuff.

How bad do you want it? [8D]

Hey GregH, what is an "anchor point" to complete the three..
I call the place where my release hand touches my face/head, the anchor point.

thanks....
as a finger shooter i try to keep that spot on my face, where the string hits my nose and also my sights all the same everytime.....i find my major issue is my left hand (the one holding the bow) the more difficult as far as grip on the bow and what happends to the bows motion after i release my arrow

Why, because as I read all the posts I saw people trying to give him someadvice and most were getting refutted. When I ask for advice, I try to accept it all graciously and thank those who offer it. I quietly accept what I want and QUIETLY reject what I don't want.

Myresponse was made inhopes that he and othersmight comprehend what can be missed by not being more acceptable to negative criticism and criticism that maynot be applicable.
I sure understand where you are coming from. People,(and I'm not singleing you out WH), want advice only if you agree with them. They want to hear the shot wasn't their fault or that they look great. Say something even constructive and your buried in turmoil and labeled a trouble-maker (what does he know anyway!)

I noticed the long loop very early on in this post..but how do you tell a guy who repeatedly posts.."there is no good reason not to shoot a string loop!" that his loop is hurting him. I knew it wouldn't go over well..so too each his own. If your happy I'm happy.

GR8:

I recall a thread I had on here, last year....asking about whether or not it would be ethical to shoot a deer that I had coming in to my set every morning .....in LEGAL shooting light.....but light so dim I had a hard time making out if it had antlers or not. I had a tag for both (doe or buck......heck I had a BUNCH of tags...lol), but some people interjected so much into my scenario....that you'd have thought I was poaching spotted owls on the White House lawn with a stolen crossbow.

Sometimes.....the conjecture gets to be too much. I'm just sayin......

That's why a good qualified coach one can trust is so valuable. Hard to know what is good and not good advice by a bunch of people you don't even know.......JMHO.
