I have a similiar knife. I found at Cabelas a knife sharpening kit. This included a couple different stones for sharpening the blade and a few smaller stone/stone rods that can be used for guthooks, broadheads, fish hooks, etc. It works pretty slick.

I think the best way to keep and edge on a knife is using a steel. If you know how to work one it works really well.

I use the Lansky Deluxe system.......

It's idiot proof if you read the directions and reasonably priced to boot. Keeps my knives sharp enough to shave hair on my arm. I never have to sharpen the gut hook either, and I have gutted probably 15+ deer with my current gerber.

If you are good with stones and steels then good for you, because I am not. I second the Lansky as Rick said.

I have no problem using an Arkansas stone w a drop of lube oil. It takes a little practice to learn the best angle to hold the blade against the stone. I always advise people to imagine they are shaving a very thin sliver off the stone. Give about 20 strokes to one side of the blade and then turn the knife over and repeat. It make take a hundred strokes on each sideto get the blade where you want it. After that it requires much less effort to restore the edge when the blade gets dull.

Good luck.

I like a steel as well, but I'm much moe proficient with the lansky or the ceramic rods. I have a browning knife as well Jeff, it's not too shabby.

Knives are ground at specific angles. You can sharpen them at a different angle but this is why is seems to take forever and people give up. Like the knife I use is ground at 23 degrees. I sharpen it at that degree with a kit that I bought from Cabelas. No one can hold the perfect angle without the use of an aid. I suggest the Gatco sharpener from Cabelas.
