RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
i have seen this kind of wound before..if you look at it closely theres a horizontal line on each side of the cut ,when a broad head barely passes by one blade can slice her just enough that it will lay open a wound just like that ,,just a bad shot by a bow hunter.probably.she will heal...

Actually I don't think it looks all that infected. It's not grossly colored is it? I'm betting she heals over. One buck I have mounted, I call cripple buck because his femur bone stuck out of his back leg at the joint and was scared terribly along that leg (assuming car accident)...was healed over quite nicely.
Let's hope she makes it, she looks healthy otherwise.

Yea, id say arrow.I hope lots of newbees to bowhunting see that because if you dont wait for a broadside shot, thats what happens. Some guys will set up ground blinds so close to a run that they picture a 3 foot shot. Then the guy gets antsy and takes a head on shot.Back off from the run,and give yourself a comfort zone,so you dont have to worry so much about being busted. You will get the shot you want, and being more confident will also improve your shooting.

I'd say that's most likely a hunter inflicted wound but it could just as easily be a bullet that cut that straight line in the hide. Because it's wide open and in reach s she can keep it clean by licking it,I'd say that infection risk is low and that the deer will survive.
