I find that if I can't laugh at myself I have no right to laugh at anyone else. My mom told me that every morning when she put me on the short bus.

Sarcasm is like black pepper: A little bit can spice up things, too much can ruin it. I find some guys don't know the difference, and sarcastic remarks and "ribbing" is just a thin veil to disguise over-competitive natures. I have been with guys who constantly ride each other "all in good fun" and it gets old real quick. You're walking on eggshells lest you be the next victim. No thanks. Just some food for thought for all the practicle jokers out there.

Sometimes humor can backfire, two years ago my sister in law shot a dink, musta been a late born fawn and it was very small. It was about the last day and she has only killed one other deer in her life so she really didnt know the difference till we went to help her get it.I teased her about it on and off all summer.

Last year I snuck up on a herd of deer in a grove, I had a couple doe tags and the big buck that was with them snuck out.The deer busted me coming in and ran out.It was almost dark when I seen a deer stand up behind a brush pile, I could see its head peeking around the brush and one shoulder through a basketball size hole in the brush.I nelt down, got the shoulder in my scope and fired. You guessed it, I shot one that was even smaller then hers without realizing what I had done. The last year has been a living hell, I get teased by everyone, Im not to sure someone didnt keep the skull to torment me with.

I think what offends MANY people around here is people coming onto a thread that has NOTHING to do with what they're about to type.....and basically putting down a method....equipment.....etc...that the original poster was trying to discuss.

Example....

Anybody shoot the new Drenaline?

Reply:

If you're not shooting a Trykon....you're shooting inferior equipment.

See??

Anyways.....my wife's hotter than yours.

David...good post. Yep, it is supposed to be fun.

Back to my post about not shooting does, a lot of that also comes with where you are at. I've hunted Idaho and Oregon where you only get one tag for deer. For archery hunters, it is an "either sex" tag. Most who I know will look for a buck, and pass on a doe. I used to only harvest a doe on the last day of the season, just to fill the tag. Of course, the ribbing would start from the hunting buddies. I eventually just never told any of them. Today, I simply do not need the meat, and am looking for a trophy animal. That is my new "fun". Taking the time to scout out a nice maturebuck in hopes to get a shot.

Another factor is I also hunt elk, and actually spend more more time in persuit of that speicies thandeer.

As for ribbing people on here, I try not too.As stated, text can always be read out of context ofwhat is ment.

I totally agree with David's posts. I am not near old enough to experience what he has, but I still agree. A lot of todays hunters are more concerned about a deer's score than anything else. I could care less what a buck scores, same for the friends that I hunt with. I'm more proud of some does I've shot than of some of my bucks. People post threads on here about asking what we would do, if we would shoot a paticular buck. I can't help but think that they are not truely happy unless thier buck is HUGE. Thats sad. If thats all they are "hunting for", then they have missed the boat. Watching the sun rise in the morning, the smell of honey suckle. Fresh breaths of cold air. Haveing a hawk fly in and land on a branch not 15 feet above you. Watching all of gods creatures come to life at day break or go to bed. Getting close to critters undetected. Spending time with family and friends. Those are just a few reasons for me to be in the woods. People need to take a close look at WHY they are hunting. Maybe if people took a closer look at thier values and why they are hunting to begin with, they would not get offended so easliy.
