Snorting Snow.....
I was out in the field last night. Cold, wind Chill was -16 degrees.
I was set up with my back to the tree rowI backed up to. To my left was corn as far as the eye could see, and to my right soy forever. Directly in front of me is 60 yards of brush with thoasands of conservation acres beyond that brush. I waited and saw a few and waited some more. I was counting down the minutes to Golden hour. It was about 4:45 whenI herd a sneeze in the corn. I looked and didn't see any thing. Heard it again and looked even harder, busted out the Binocs. I saw about 10-15 deer walking through the middle of the corn field. They were snorting the snow!! I mean Hardcore Snorting and weezing. Several of them were doing this. IT WAS LOUD. I only heard deer make this sound when they had a double lung shot! it was snorting and weezing.
WHY WERE THEY DOING THIS??????????
COMMUNICATION??
WERE THEY SICK??
WERE THEY SMELLING SOMETHING IN THE SNOW??
ANYBODY SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS??

RE: Snorting Snow.....
Deer cocaine addicts are at it again! lol. That really is weird, man. I've hunted in the snow for years and I've never seen them do that. If I had to guess, I'd say they smelled something in the snow, but I still don't know why they'd keep doin it. I don't think they would be smelling for food, and it's highly unlikely they'd all be sick at the same time. Bring a camera next time!

Sounds like what my labrador does when we take him hunting in the snow. He'll run along with his nose burried, sniffing around, and its like every so often his nose gets clogged with snow so he snorts to get it out.
Chances are they were doing like Hazcon said and trying to smell through the snow.
